I feel like such a jerk because this is an amazing part of World War II history that needs to be addressed. It’s a race against time to find the art before Hitler destroys a thousand years worth of legacy. Much of the sweeps are coming up clean as the war is nearing its end.

She later helps them get into Germany where they find that the art may be hidden in several small towns. While everyone’s trying to catch up on their research, James is getting information from a Frenchwoman working for a top ranking Nazi major, Clair Simone (played by Cate Blanchet). They arrive in France where they spend the first couple of years tracking what art was stolen and where they may be likely hidden. So he recruits James Granger (played by Matt Damon), Richard Campbell (played by Bill Murray), Walter Garfield (played by John Goodman), Jean Claude Clermont (played by Jean Dujardin), Preston Saviz (played by Bob Balaban) and Donald Jeffries (played by Hugh Bonneville). He’s given his go to get the men he wants a part of the team. Roosevelt about his mission to save the arts, sculptures, buildings, and overall cultures of France and Italy, both under Nazi rule. It’s 1940 as Frank Stokes (played by George Clooney) is presenting a proposal to president Franklin D. Most of the action can be seen in The Monuments Men. The monuments men were a group of scholars whose goal was to make sure that the art was not destroyed. That’s right, all of the paintings and sculptures would have been destroyed had it not been for a particular group of American GIs. But the mission also stated that should Hitler’s empire fall, then the art will go down with him.

Part of their mission was to take all the classical art they could for Hitler’s collection. Nazism though wanted to change everything, including our legacy and culture. Doctors, reporters, and researchers all part of a big team to prevent an end to democratic freedom. But what about the other heroes of the war? Though that didn’t do any other the fighting or shooting, there are actually a large amount of people that put their resources elsewhere. These guys were under terrible conditions with the threat of Nazism spreading to the west. All the focus is set upon the soldiers that had done all the dirty work of making their ways into Germany and Japan. Much of the World War II you hear in history class is in the trenches.
